Your loyal venture-officers and organizers have fallen a bit behind the announcements for a number of reasons. This is the third post in a series that should help you get up to speed on the Organized Play updates!
Beginning with Season 2, PFS2 is going to look different–and that includes our Pathfinder 2 characters! The guide’s been updated, and Paizo released blog post describing some of the big adjustments. There are a number of changes listed in the blog post:
Simplifying Schools of Study
We don’t get “points” to invest in schools (or to hoard and use to gain downtime) anymore–you pick a school, or to be a generalist, or to have a field commission.
Fame and Boons
Fame’s going away! When we GM, we should no longer hand out fame. Instead, this will be something tracked online, on paizo.com, along with boons. Paizo outlined the transition:
- July 31st, 2020: characters no longer earn fame. Any chronicles issued between 31 July and 15 September that have Fame awards are grandfathered in as accurate.
- October 1st, 2020: boons available for being “liked” by a faction are available for purchase on paizo.com
- October 31st, 2020: goal for having Admired and Revered boons available for purchase on paizo.com
- December 31st, 2020: fame can no longer be used to purchase boons.
- The Future:
- Paizo is finishing a conversion system and will announce the particulars within the next few weeks.
- Paizo will continue to monitor the program, including purchases, and may add new options at future points in the campaign.

Choose a home region. (It’s pretty simple.)
Learning Spells
This is big news: as of this blog post, clerics and druids don’t automatically get access to common spells that aren’t in the Core Rulebook. In order to gain access to them, a cleric or druid needs to use the Learn a Spell activity.
It’s my understanding that this was not an Organized Play decision, but we’ll still need to abide by it.
Other Changes to the Guide
There was one other change in the guide that didn’t make it into the blog post: the chronicle sheets are greatly reduced in scope. Players are now encouraged to use other means to track their characters, and to go along with Paizo’s work on digitization, there’s no place for previous or updated totals, just the changed numbers.
